Demand Turkish Cinemas Show Naza the Real Story

Cinemas in Turkey are screening the Guardian-produced documentary 'NAZA' (autumn 2026). We ask them to add factual context and also screen 'Naza: The Real Story'.

The documentary "NAZA" relies on highly selective narratives and presents an unbalanced view of operational realities on the ground. The reality of asymmetric warfare—and specifically the terrorist organization Hamas's systematic use of civilians and civilian infrastructure as human shields—is completely ignored. Legal verification procedures, rule-of-law safeguards, and operational measures aimed at minimizing civilian harm are not presented fairly. Against the current backdrop of a worrying rise in antisemitic acts and rhetoric, screening a highly biased film without proper context fuels polarization and prejudice in our cities. Cinema management is strongly urged to provide the public with information sheets offering factual and legal context. For debates or screenings followed by discussion, the presence of balanced and diverse experts must be ensured to prevent the event from veering into one-sided activism. The heavy concentration of such programming should be re-evaluated in the interest of cultural balance and pluralism. We also invite you to screen the documentary "Naza: The Real Story" (https://nazadocumentary.com), in which Israeli military commanders and intelligence officers who served in Gaza provide firsthand accounts of the reality on the ground—including Hamas fighters operating in plainclothes from civilian areas, the holding of hostages in private homes, and the handling of humanitarian aid. The film is available online with English subtitles.
